16 Hour On-the-Job Training Course for Security Guards
Knight Training Institute (KTI) offers a variety of security guard training classes for candidates interested in pursuing a career in security protection. In order to become a security guard in New York State, you must first complete the 8 Hour Pre-Assignment Training Course for Security Guards. The next step is to take the 16 Hour On-the-Job Training Course for Security Guards within 90 days of employment as a security guard.
The security industry offers many job opportunities and trained security guards are always in high demand. If you’ve been a bouncer, are a retired fireman or are looking for a new career with growth opportunities, security guard training is an excellent choice.
The 16 Hour On-the-Job Training Course for Security Guards provides students with more specific details on the duties and responsibilities of a security guard than the 8 Hour Pre-Assignment Training Course. Topics related to your job that are covered in the 16 Hour Security Guard Training Course include:
- Role of the security guard
- Legal powers and limitations
- Emergency situations
- Communications and public relations
- Access control
- Ethics and conduct
- Overview of the incident
- Command system
- Terrorism related topics
Students must attend both days of the 16 Hour Security Guard Training Course. An examination will be given on the second day and a minimum passing score of 70% is required to become certified. KTI will provide a certificate of completion to all students with a passing score.
KTI also offers the 8 Hour Annual In-Service Training Course for Security Guards, which guards must complete every year. For security guards interested in celebrity and executive protection, KTI also offers the Celebrity & Executive Protection Training Course, created by our founder Ed Troiano.
New York State law requires registration and training of security guards in the state. KTI is a New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services approved security guard training school.
